INNER8 + sYn A/V

December 22-23 2021.

A sound design and visual project faced with LiDAR technology and Convolution audio techniques. Mapping the rupestrian morphology of the Matera landscape, a calcareous highland plateau characterized by deep fault fissures, ravines, rocks and caves.

Sound.

Sampling the environmental acoustics of some rupestrian sites through "convolution" recordings.

In a post-production phase this allows to artificially recreate the acoustic properties without being physically present in the place itself.

Visual.

In addition to capturing the acoustic properties of the space, it will be mapped in 3D using LiDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) technology.

This technique allows to figure out the distance of the surface / objects by means of laser pulses, accurately obtaining the measurements that allow to recreate the space in 3D.

Inner8 + sYn A/V.

Inner8 + sYn A/V is a collaborative project between the artists Daniele Antezza and Federico Nitti, started in 2015 in occasion of Inner8 debut album release.

The project ultimate aim is to provide to the audience an immersive, synaesthetic and psychedelic experience, where the audio-visual elements are fused together into a unique data stream: fractalized patterns, echoes of tribal ritualities, deconstructed textures. Everything is conceived to boost the listener experience at a deep level of consciousness.

Across the last years Inner8 and sYn have showcased their performance worldwide.

Inner8.

Daniele Antezza is Inner8, a multi-faceted electronic music producer, member of Dadub duo, Mastering Engineer at Dadub Mastering Studio and Holotone Label Manager.

With his ritualistic/ecstatic vision permeated by scientific rigour, Inner8 is concerned with a holistic "deconstructive approach" through which "it's possible to reveal the paradoxes behind the status quo and unveil the intrinsic power of alternative languages.

Antezza also takes pride in the ritualistic quality of Inner8's live sets; a mobile laboratory of dynamic tension in which his theories manifest as massive physical vibrations (here we can also see / hear / feel just how well Daniele has absorbed the lessons of the dub "sound system" aesthetic.)

sYn.

Federico Nitti (sYn) works at the intersection between sound and image.  Part hacker, part maverick, Nitti fuses digital and analogue approaches, code and electronics, to explore the interactive relation of sound and image.  His approach always embraces the beauty of the moment, magnifying synaesthetic response through exploiting the human connection amidst the technology.

LiDAR.

LiDAR, or light detection and ranging, is a popular remote sensing method used for measuring the exact distance of an object on the earth’s surface. Even though it was first used in the 1960s when laser scanners were mounted to aeroplanes, LiDAR didn’t get the popularity it deserved until twenty years later.

It was only during the 1980s after the introduction of GPS that it became a popular method for calculating accurate geospatial measurements. Now that its scope has spread across numerous fields, we should know more about LiDAR mapping technology and how it works.

According to the American Geoscience Institute, LiDAR uses a pulsed laser to calculate an object’s variable distances from the earth surface. These light pulses — put together with the information collected by the airborne system — generate accurate 3D information about the earth surface and the target object.

The residency is a long therm project in collaboration with the Department of Anthropological and Geographical Sciences of the University of Basilicata and involves geologists, urban planners, anthropologists and an engineer specialized in LiDAR technology.
